Human Endeavor
Human Endeavor throughout
time has crafted objects to enhance daily
life. My furniture respects the labor-intensive
nature of past human effort, and continues
to rely on hands-on-work as integral in the
shaping of each project. These furniture
pieces transform raw discarded materials
into useful objects expressing the values
I hold for traditional techniques of wood
joinery and metal welding, along with my
desire to reduce the waste of our culture.
When designing I use the long-established
shapes and functions of furniture as the
canvas, rethinking how it can be built and
perceived using the pieces and parts I have
available to me. Because my design process
starts with pieces of wood, the product can
only be one of a kind. My knowledge of materials
and my design background allows me to create
based on a combination of structure, beauty
and function, however the items that I build
transcend these basic ideas and each express
their own character. |
